Richard Herstein

Richard Herstein has fifteen years consulting experience in strategic planning, grant writing, contract maximization, program development, and executive coaching. During this period, he raised over $100 million from three levels of government, corporations, and foundations. His proposals have been funded for a variety of program areas, including child welfare, early childhood education, youth, senior, medical and mental health, HIV/AIDS, employment, substance abuse, homelessness, immigration, and disaster relief services, as well as for capital and general support. Richard has a special interest in assisting organizations to implement the strategic plans that he facilitates. He works productively with boards of directors and all staff levels.

In addition to his consulting career, Richard has worked as a salaried executive doing planning, fundraising, budgeting, and program development for government and private non-profit organizations. He has taught post-masters courses in grant writing, organizational development, and fiscal planning and control.

Joan Leavitt

Joan Leavitt is the President and owner of Joan Leavitt Consulting a small firm that offers comprehensive services to the not-for-profit health and social welfare sectors in site selection, program development, strategic planning and grant writing. Since beginning this firm in 2001, Ms. Leavitt has worked for non-profit agencies and proprietary groups to assist them in obtaining government and foundation funding, site selection for program operation and acquisition of New York State licensing for operating substance abuse and mental health programs. She has assisted groups in raising tens of millions of dollars to develop affordable housing, provide services to youth and the elderly, and to deliver child welfare and services to the homeless. Ms. Leavitt has worked on grants and funding applications that include Federal, State and City initiatives, and private foundations.

Prior to establishing this firm, Ms. Leavitt was a senior member of the professional staff of the President of the Borough of Brooklyn, for whom she worked for more than three decades dealing with matters including policy, budget, capital development, advocacy and community relations and covering areas such as education, health, youth services, social welfare and aging.

Jeff Sobel

Jeff Sobel, President of Jeffrey Sobel Consulting is dedicated to serving and helping non-profit organizations achieve their everyday missions and visions for the future. With over 16 years of demonstrated success in development activities, strategic planning, and community building efforts, Jeff has the expertise to ensure positive outcomes and results for all types of projects. Jeff is an active member of the non-profit and fundraising community, and has raised over $75 million from individual, corporate, foundation, and government sources. He has successfully assisted organizations in designing leadership and major donor campaigns as well as implementing planned giving programs.

Jeff is currently President and Chairman of the Children's Support Foundation, a well recognized organization by several accredited institutions including The Chronicle of Philanthropy and BoardSource. Prior to founding Jeffrey Sobel Consulting, Jeff served as Vice President of External Affairs for Safe Space NYC. In addition, he has worked in senior development positions at the United Way of New York City and the United Way of Essex and West Hudson (Newark, NJ).
